Lufkin man and three friends bag 880-pound, 13-foot, 101/2-inch-long gator near Trinity Texas.

Just thought I'd pass that along.

All so smiling and proud. What possible good can come from killing such a magnificent beast. I can't stand people that kill for nothing. I think they should all be placed in the woods and hunted like the gator was hunted. Any man that is proud of killing needlessly is not much of a man in my book. Hunting for food when you need it is one thing. Trophy hunting like this is pure bullshit and I think everyone of the hunters should be hunted.

there were a lot of comments similar to yours on the newspapers blog. I can understand your feelings to a point, although I don't agree with them.
These men bought hunting licenses and the appropriate tags. They followed the hunting regulations as to time, place, and method of hunting. They did it within a hunting season that is recognized.
The fact that there is a hunting season for that, or any other species is in fact recognition by the Parks and Wildlife Department that after careful consideration and study, they found there to be a large enough population to control through limited hunting, hence the need for the appropriate tags.

As for your comment about hunting for food when you "need" it; No one in this country needs to hunt for food. We have supermarkets on every corner. Need has nothing to do with it.
